Unmasked

In my third year of University, a friend and I took a 'placement year' before moving on to our final year of the course. However, rather than being employed by a company, we took advantage of the university's business start-up scheme to instead set up our own company and work for ourselves on a project we had total control over.

This project took form as a VR puzzle game taking place in an old abandoned circus. The player takes the role of a father who has lost his young daughter at the circus and has returned several years later to continue to search for her. The game was simply a set of contextual puzzles the player had to solve to advance the story and access more areas.

We had just under a year to produce a playable version of the game which we then showcased at the university's annual student computing exhibition.

My role in the team was to handle the majority of the design of the game, including modelling, texturing, animating, narrative, level design, sound design, and puzzle design; whilst my partner focused more explicitly on the programming. These were just specializations however, as I did contribute to the code, and my partner helped with some elements of level and narrative design, and came up with several of the puzzles from scratch.
